GoodTaste Cafe and Restaurant (Baguio City): Good Quantity and Tasty Food at Affordable Prices!

Along with Chef’s Home, another restaurant that’s always in my Baguio food trip itinerary is GoodTaste Cafe and Restaurant. An institution in the city, GoodTaste is known for offering delicious food with good quantity and affordable prices. That’s why locals and tourists alike flock here.

It’s housed in a multi-level building and every floor dedicated for dining gets full easily. It used to be open 24/7 prior to the pandemic. But at any time, there are people eating.

Due to its wide-scale operations, GoodTaste employs a massive set of dumbwaiters. And recently, it has made some improvements, such as ringers and even a robot that serves dishes to tables. Now that’s high-tech!

The restaurant mostly offers Filipino-Chinese or panciteria food, which I love. So we ordered the classics, starting with Hototay Soup. This panciteria staple is a medley of ingredients—meats, vegetables, and dumplings—and perfect for the cold Baguio weather.

For mains, we ordered the Lechon Tofu (deep-fried pork belly stir-fried with tofu), which is my favorite. I love the delicious lechon, the soft tofu, and the crunch from the mushrooms and veggies. Of course, we can’t skip on another staple, Lumpiang Shanghai (Filipino deep-fried spring rolls). It’s tasty and wrapped with crisp lumpia skin, perfect to be dunked on a sweet and sour sauce.

If family-style dishes are too much for your group, you can just opt for the combo meals instead. We got the GoodTaste Buttered Chicken Rice, which includes the resto’s signature Buttered Chicken. The chicken is covered in a sweet and buttery (or margarine-y) sauce. You’ll see other tables almost always having this dish.

My wife had the Fried Rice with Lechon, since she prefers a crispy lechon than a soggy one found in the Lechon Tofu.

The rice meals also come with crisp veggies. You won’t get disappointed with the vegetables, knowing that Benguet, the province where Baguio belongs, is dubbed as the Salad Bowl of the Philippines.

To end the meal, we had their Chocolate Mousse. While we wish that it has more mousse, its moist chocolate chiffon makes up for it. And we really can’t complain because it only costs less than PHP50, if I’m not mistaken!

I’ve noticed that the food in Good Taste (and in Baguio and Northern Luzon) generally lack a bit of salt or seasoning (didn’t notice it before). But that can be quickly remedied with a dip of toyomansi (soy sauce and calamansi) with chopped siling labuyo (chilies).

Nevertheless, GoodTaste is a must-visit for your Baguio (food) trip. Here, you can easily feed a family or a big group with delicious food without breaking the bank. I highly recommend this place to you!
