Bakmi Nyonya Assembly Grounds (Makati City): One of the Best Indonesian Restaurants in the Philippines!
I noticed that there is a growing Indonesian community in my hometown, Makati City. That’s why more and more authentic Indonesian restaurants are popping up in the city. One is Bakmi Nyonya.
Bakmi Nyonya started out participating in bazaars, with the goal of making Filipinos fall in love with Indonesian cuisine. Today, they have three branches in Metro Manila, with food stalls in Pioneer Street Market (Mandaluyong City) and in Food District (BGC, Taguig City). But their Assembly Grounds branch in Makati City is their first sit-down restaurant.
Bakmi Nyonya
Bakmi Nyonya is founded and owned by Lucy Tarmiji Garcia, who is an Indonesian who married a Filipino husband and is now based in the Philippines. Diners can be assured that the food at Bakmi Nyonya is authentically Indonesian!
The Menu of Bakmi Nyonya Assembly Grounds
Let’s now talk about their food, starting with their namesake dish, Bakmi Goreng or stir-fried (goreng) meat noodles (bakmi).
Bakmi Goreng (Express Chicken: PHP280; Express Seafood: PHP320; Table Chicken: PHP390; Table Seafood: PHP490)
It has bouncy noodles and crisp veggies, covered in sweet, savory, and smoky flavors. It’s everything you want in a Southeast Asian stir-fried noodles!
We also ordered their Gado-Gado, a salad composed of blanched vegetables, boiled egg, potatoes, tofu, and other ingredients, all covered in peanut sauce.
Gado-Gado (Small: PHP280; Share: PHP420)
Bakmi Nyonya’s version has crisp veggies and is made a bit sweet because of the corn. But I wish that peanut sauce is more pronounced.
Of course, no Indonesian meal would be complete without Nasi Goreng (literally “fried rice”), which is considered as the national dish of Indonesia.
Nasi Goreng Kampoeng (Express Chicken: PHP250; Express Seafood: PHP280; Table Chicken: PHP380; Table Seafood: PHP420)
It has the same flavor profile as the bakmi goreng. It also has tender pieces of chicken and crisp cabbage.
Another iconic Indonesian dish that we tried in Bakmi Nyonya is Sate or grilled meat skewers. We tried their Ayam Madura (Madura-style chicken), which is tender, juicy, and covered in kicap manis (sweet soy sauce) and peanut sauce. (Madura is an island in Indonesia. Madura-style sate covers the skewers in peanut sauce.)
Sate Babi (3 Sticks: PHP250; 5 Sticks: PHP390)
Another sate we tried is Babi (pork), which is like Filipino bork barbecue.
Because we love beef rendang (coconut stew), we tried Bakmi Nyonya’s Rendang Jawa. It’s flavorful (I can certainly taste the lemongrass) and on the wet side, with tender chunks of beef.

They also sell Indonesian crackers and sambals (sauce or condiment). We love their Garlic Kropeck!

Bakmi Nyonya is one of the best Indonesian restaurants I’ve tried here in the Philippines. They serve delicious food that are presented colorfully (it increases appetite!), and their Assembly Grounds branch has a nice interior. I highly recommend it to you!
