Flipside Burgers: Flippin' My New Favorite Smashed Burgers (and It’s Very Affordable!)

I’m always on the lookout for the best burgers in the Metro. And I think I found the best one and my new favorite: Flipside Burgers.

Flipside Burgers at Gyud Food Market

Flipside Burgers is a food truck specializing in Oklahoma-style smashed burgers. It’s the brainchild of Chef Ed Bugia of the former Pino Group.

The food truck started out in Gyud Food Market in the University of the Philippines (Quezon City), which explains why the prices are so affordable. You can have a great burger for as low as P225!

Angus Beef Patties

Last September 28, Flipside Burgers opened a new branch in ArcoVia City (Pasig City). What’s nice about this second branch is that it has more burgers in its menu (more on this later!).

But why the name “Flipside”? It’s because they believe that the best way to eat a burger is to flip it. In this way, the upper bun absorbs and the bottom bun doesn’t get soggy. While I find that smart, I think there’s no chance for the buns to get soggy because I guarantee that you’ll finish your burger in just a few minutes!

I will say it now: Their burgers are amazing! Its smashed Angus beef patties (when applicable) are beefy and juicy, and it’s perfectly crisp outside. The buns (I think it’s potato buns but I may be wrong) are pillowy and buttery. Then it usually comes with American cheese, grilled onions, dill pickles, and Flipside’s special sauce.

I’ve tried most of the burgers at Flipside, with the exception of the Oklahoma Burger Sliders (because I had the regular one instead) Shrimp Burger (because I’m allergic to it).

Here’s what I think of the burgers:

  • Bacon Jam Slam (ArcoVia Branch Only): It has bacon jam, cream cheese, and crispy onion strings. The bacon flavor of this burger is strong, and the onions are crisp and tasty.

If you’re a bacon lover, this is for you. This is easily my favorite in Flipside Burgers!

  • Breakfast Burger: Instead of beef patties, this one has chorizo hamonado (Filipino sweet sausage) patties. And of course, it has eggs.

The patties have a nice chorizo flavor and acidity (I think it’s vinegar). It’s not as sweet as I expected (which is nice, because some chorizo are overly sweet), but I want it to be a bit more sweeter. The egg is so creamy, and this burger is one of best breakfast burgers I’ve ever had!

  • California Love (ArcoVia Branch Only): While the components are typical (Flipside’s staple ingredients plus lettuce and tomatoes), this burger is amazing. The veggies are fresh and crisp!

  • Fish Fillet Sandwich (ArcoVia Branch Only): This one has Alaskan pollock breaded patty, which is crisp and flaky. I’m not into fish burgers, but I find no problem eating this one.

  • Oklahoma Style Smashed Burger: It’s like California Love minus the veggies. It’s also good!

  • Umami Burger: If you like mushrooms in your burger, then this is for you! It has Umami Butter and shiitake mushrooms.

Flipside Burgers also offer sides. My favorite side so far is the Mini Corndogs. The batter is crisp, airy, and sweet. The hotdogs, although a bit salty for me, are juicy. These bad boys are delicious and addictive!

Another side that I tried is the Fried Dill Pickles, which are sour and has a crunch, covered with the same sweet batter as with the corndogs.

Unfortunately (and I find this odd) is that Flipside Burgers doesn’t offer fries. I hope they do in the future!

Flipside Burgers make great burgers with affordable prices. It’s now my favorite burger joint in Metro Manila. I hope they expand further (I think they’re opening 2 more branches soon). Needless to say, I highly recommend Flipside Burgers to you!
