Jhun and Ana Halo-Halo: The Best Halo-Halo in Padre Garcia (Batangas)

Halo-Halo is possibly the most popular Filipino dessert. Literally “mix mix”, it’s a shaved ice dessert with fruits, jellies, sweetened beans, and other ingredients. It is Philippines’ answer to Japan’s Kakigori, Malaysia’s/Singapore’s Ais Kacang, and South Korea’s Bingsu. One of the best ones I had can be found in Padre Garcia (Batangas), which is located south of Manila. It’s made by Jhun and Ana Halo-Halo.

Jhun and Ana boasts of having the best halo-halo in Padre Garcia (they even say that if their halo-halo isn’t good, then it’s free). I learned about it when Chef RV Manabat did a food trip in Batangas. He claimed that it’s one of the best ones he has tried. I was intrigued. So when we had a vacation in Quezon province, we did a stopover at Padre Garcia going home and visited Jhun and Ana.

Their halo-halo has seven ingredients (but I can only name six): Gulaman (jelly), leche flan (crème caramel), sweetened banana, sweet corn, sweet potato, and ube (purple yam).

The milk is creamy and the ingredients have the right sweetness. But the best part is the sweetened banana, which has a nice caramel taste. This is perfect for the summer heat! And Chef RV was right!

Jhun and Ana also serves siomai or steamed pork dumplings. It’s decent.

But their chicharon (deep-fried pig rinds) is amazing! It’s one of the best ones I had. So go for the halo-halo but leave with chicharon! LOL.

Jhun and Ana Halo-Halo serves one of the best versions of the Filipino shaved ice dessert and I highly recommend it to you. But I wouldn’t recommend that you travel all the way to Padre Garcia just for it. It’s best that you do a stopover if you’re coming from the south (like Quezon or Bicol region) or make it a stop if you’re doing a food trip in Batangas.

Have you tried Jhun and Ana’s halo-halo? What halo-halo spot should I visit next? Comment below!
