Trying Marudori's Asari (Clam) Ramen

Marudori is the chicken ramen concept of Nippon Hasha, the group behind Mendokoro Ramenba and Ramen Yushoken. Recently, they added 2 new ramen in their Rockwell branch menu, and it's made with chicken and asari (clam) broth. Of course, I had to try it right away.

(P.S. You can check my review of other Marudori items here. And if you want to check out the branch exclusives of Mendokoro and Yushoken, read this article.)

The first one is the Asari Shio Ramen, which has a shio (salt) base. It’s broth is made with chicken and clams, and is clean-tasting. It’s like eating a chicken noodle soup but with a hint of clam flavor.

But what’s interesting is that the broth has a thin broth. This is surprising because Marudori, just like Mendokoro and Yushoken, is known for their creamy and thick broth. But it’s a welcome surprise because I’m in the mood for a thin broth sometimes.

Thin Broth

Like Marudori’s regular Shio Ramen, the asari version has tender slices of steamed chicken breast. While it’s on the plain side, it’s compensated by its tenderness (it’s still the most tender chicken breast I’ve ever had). The bamboo shoots add texture. I just wish that the clams are bigger.

The second one is the Asari Shoyu Ramen. Because this is soy-based, it’s full of umami. The broth is also thin like the Asari Shio Ramen. And like its regular Shoyu Ramen counterpart, it has a tender and sweet boneless chicken thigh. It also has bamboo shoots, which adds texture.

The Clams of the Asari Ramen

My only issue with both ramen is that the noodles aren’t as al dente as I want it to be.

The noodles are not so al dente as I want it to be.

By the way, add chili oil, chili powder, and vinegar to your ramen. The condiments elevate it!

The Condiments at Marudori

And before I end this article, I want to share a new favorite in Marudori—Tebasaki Gyoza (chicken wings stuffed with gyoza filling). It’s super juicy and smoky, and has a skin with a sweet teriyaki glaze

How do I find Marudori’s new asari ramen? I think they’re both good but I like the shoyu one more. In fact, the Asari Shoyu Ramen is now my new favorite at Marudori. I also like that they have a thin broth. As I mentioned, I’m in the mood for ramen with thin broth sometimes. I highly recommend that you give Marudori’s asari ramen a try!

By the way, in case you missed it, the asari ramen is only available in Marudori’s Rockwell branch as of the time of this writing. But I’m still placing the Salcedo Village branch details below.
