Like many cities in the world, Bangkok is also bustling at night. You can eat at Yaowarat Road in Chinatown (read about my Chinatown Food Trip here), party at the backpackers haven Khao San Road, or visit night markets. If you want to eat and shop at the same time, then you should do the last one. One popular night market for both locals and tourists is JODD FAIRS.
JODD FAIRS is formerly the Train Night Market Ratchada, a.k.a. Talad Rot Fai. When the pandemic was worsening in Bangkok, the night market in Ratchada had to close down temporarily. It reopened eventually and moved to a new location in Rama IX Road, which we visited and I’m writing about here. It recently opened another branch (called JODD FAIRS DanNeramit) on what used to be a theme park.
Like any night markets, JODD FAIRS has live entertainment, retail stalls, and, of course, food vendors. There were a few interesting retail concepts at JODD FAIRS. One of them is this used sneakers stall:
There are also stalls selling artisanal products like this one:
Intermission: Doing a trip to Bangkok soon? Planning to eat a lot of Thai street food and to shop for bargain finds? If yes, then I’m excited for you! But here’s a tip: Don’t travel without an insurance! It’s good to have peace of mind while you’re traveling. So if you’re looking for a travel medical insurance, I highly recommend SafetyWing’s Nomad Insurance. It includes coverage for the following:
What I like about Nomad Insurance is the convenience it gives. My wife and I were already en route to the airport for our Thailand trip and we still had not purchased our travel medical insurance. Thankfully, we were able to secure one from Nomad Insurance with just a few taps on my smartphone!
Aside from convenience, here are the other advantages that Nomad Insurance offers:

The Food We Tried
But we went there, obviously, for the food. At JODD FAIRS, you’ll find local, international, and trendy food. Here are the ones we liked (take note that I wasn’t able to take note of the stall names):
Durian: The stinky King of Fruits was expensive during our visit in Thailand (I guess it wasn’t its season). So I was lucky to find a piece priced at only 100 baht. It’s creamy, sweet, and has no bitter aftertaste at all!
Grilled Beef with Fat: It’s beefy and it feels like eating steak on a stick.
Leng Zabb: This is probably the most popular food in JODD FAIRS. Leng Zabb is a spicy pork spine soup made sour with lime. We got it from this stall, which takes up a huge space in the night market and is packed with hungry diners.
Its meat is tasty and could be very messy to eat (it’s fun, though). I like that the lime cuts through the fattiness. It also has a ton of green chilies that are tolerably stay-in-the-mouth spicy. It’s a good thing that we had it for takeaway so I was able to control the amount of chilies.
I really enjoyed this dish. I love the kick, the sourness, and the experience of picking the meat from the bones. It’s also perfect for rice!
Moo Ping (Grilled Pork Skewers): Since we tasted this in Bangkok, we’ve been craving for it. This one is tender, juicy, and sweet!
Thai Roti: This is another popular street food in Thailand. It’s a crispy pancake with various fillings of your choice. We tried the one with banana at Nutella, which is expectedly yummy!
Salted Egg Lava Pastry: This trendy snack is not really a pastry, in my opinion, but more of a mochi with salted egg flavor all around and a filling inside. We tried the following fillings: Original Lava, Golden Egg Yolk Thread, Hokkaido Milk, and Nutella. It’s a good snack but nothing spectacular.

Food We Didn’t Get to Try
Of course, there are other food that we didn’t get to try at JODD FAIRS. Here are some popular food in the night market that we decided to skip:
Insects: I’m not afraid to try it but I wasn’t in the mood for exotic food.
Jumping (Small, Live Shrimp) Salad: We skipped it because we’re allergic to shrimp.
Raw Salad
River Prawns: Allergic!

JODD FAIRS Rama 9 has good food options. I think the Leng Zabb alone makes the visit already worth it. Its hip vibe is perfect for a group of friends. If you don’t mind the huge crowd and the energy of a night market, then this spot is for you. I highly recommend JODD FAIRS Raman 9 to you!
