Whenever I’m abroad, I would always take a break from local food and eat something that reminds me of home. Since Filipino food is scarce abroad, even in Thailand, I would turn to Western food (in which we are so used to in the Philippines), be it from a casual restaurant or a fastfood chain. Usually, I would go for a burger!
So I researched for the best burger in Phuket and we ended up trying the one in Central Patong, a mall in Phuket’s most famous beachtown Patong. It is where it originated.
The burger spot is Prime Burger. A brainchild of the Swedish national Tobias Garneij, it opened in 2019 and one of its burgers won an award a few months after. Their “Stockholm” burger, named after the owner’s hometown, won in Phuket’s Best Burger, which claims to be Asia’s biggest burger event, with burgers, beers, and live music. (I wished I was in Phuket when this was happening!) It started in Patong and eventually expanded throughout Phuket and outside, including Bangkok, Koh Samui, and Pattaya City. It also opened abroad in Dubai, U.A.E.
As you may have already guessed, their burgers are named after cities around the world such as Bangkok, London, and New York. The patties are smashed and a hundred percent made with Australian beef. Customers have the option to choose Single (1 patty x 130g; THB245), Double (2 patties x 95g; THB295), and Triple (3 patties x 95g; THB375).
Of course, we tried the award-winning Stockholm, which has cheese, pickled red onions, pickles, tomato, lettuce, and Prime Sauce.
The patties are beefy and ultra juicy, with all the juices absorbed by the lower bun. The buns are soft, and the pickles and onions give a nice acidic contrast to each bite. My only wish is that the patties could use a little more salt.
My wife had the Paris, which has cheddar cheese, smoked bacon, tomato, lettuce, Dijon mustard, and truffle mayo.
Our burger meal won’t be complete without sides. We got Cheesy Fries and Waffle Fries, which are both crisp. The cheese in the former is good, and its jalapeños cuts through the fried-ness.
If you noticed, there is a Halal logo in their menu. So I think they’re using non-pork bacon.
We went to Prime Burger Central Patong on a Monday night and there was a long queue. So here’s a tip: Order for takeaway to beat the queue, and eat at the food court next to it.
Anyway, Prime Burger is one of the better burgers I’ve had. If you want to take a break from Thai food or would like to eat some juicy burgers, I recommend this one to you!
