Earlier this year, I visited Rebel Bakeshop for the first time and turned out to be my favorite bakery in Baguio City. Since then, I’ve been visiting its pop-ups in the Metro, as well as its commissary in Maginhawa area.

But Baguio is a gift that keeps on giving. Just a two minute walk from Seollem Cafe (read my review here) is another patisserie with yummy baked goodies: L’Atelier Du Grain.

L’Atelier Du Grain

Literally “the grain workshop”, L’Atelier Du Grain is a European bakery that’s founded by Jackson and Cristina So in February 2023, in partnership with French pastry chef Didier Derouet. It aims to combine local flavors and European techniques, with ingredients sourced locally and abroad.

The store is compact and the smell of fresh pastries cover it.

Inside L’Atelier Du Grain

As I’ve observed, L’Atelier Du Grain’s baked goods are more traditional compared to others. They make bagels, baguettes, and zucchini bread, among many others.

Now let’s talk about the breads, starting with the classic French Butter Croissant. It’s flaky, has a nice chew, and denser than others. And true to its name, it’s also buttery.

I love fruit danish so I got their Mixed Fruits Danish, which flaky, hefty, and tart.

L’Atelier Du Grain tries to infuse local flavors into its pastries. One example is the Benguet Cappuccino Tart, which, I believe, uses coffee beans from Benguet, the province where Baguio is located. It has a strong coffee taste and a velvety filling.

Left to Right: Benguet Cappucino Tart (PHP195) and Rhubarb Cheesecake and Passionfruit Tart (PHP195). Sorry, I don’t have a proper photo of the second tart.

Finally, my favorite is the Rhubarb Cheesecake and Passionfruit Tart. It’s not common to see rhubarb or a rhubarb product here in the Philippines, so we tried it. It’s sweet and tart!

I would describe L’Atelier Du Grain as an “old school” bakery. So I don’t think we can expect trendy gimmicks from them. Still, it can match Rebel Bakehouse in quality and variety. I highly recommend it to you!
